Alternative School is an option for current juniors and seniors at Monrovia High School. Located as a “school within a school” at the MHS building, students attend school for three hours a day during a morning or afternoon session. MIT also includes a School to Work component for students who are employed.

MIT coursework is primarily based with online classes geared toward mastery learning and guided by current Indiana State Standards. Students who enroll in MIT will remain in the alternative school setting and do not return to enrollment at MHS. When students have completed all requirements for graduation they will receive an MHS diploma and can participate in the MHS graduation ceremony.

Application Process

• Students interested in applying to MIT should begin by printing and completing an Enrollment Application.
• Applications are also available in the MHS Guidance Office.
• Completed applications should be returned to the MHS Guidance Office.
• A panel of MHS Administrators and Guidance Counselors will review each application and determine if alternative school is an appropriate placement based on each student’s individual need and circumstance. If the student is accepted into the program, the MIT Coordinator will hold a meeting with each parent/guardian prior to the student attending MIT.

ASPIRE is an original credit program intended for Monrovia High School students enrolled in day school wishing to earn credits from courses not currently offered in the traditional classroom. Credits can also be earned through this alternate method that do not fit into a student's daily schedule, but they may not circumvent placement in specific classes where space is available.

Back on Track was established to meet the mission of the district by better serving middle school students who don't fit the traditional mold due to continuously low/complacent performance or inappropriate behavior. The program was designed to keep more students in school, decrease the achievement gap, utilize community involvement, and create a sense of self-worth and academic success.

Entrance & Exit Process:

• Academic interventions are exhausted.
• Application is completed by parent, student, school. Committee meets to determine eligibility.
• Interview is conducted with student & parent to determine need(s) and acceptance into the program.
• Individual Service Plan is completed to determine goals.
• Student completes the program and returns to the traditional setting (9wk, semester, year).

• Serves grades 6-8

• 3+ hours daily
• 1/15 teacher/student ratio
• Computer generated & teacher driven curriculum

Parent/Guardian Involvement:

• Parent consent on the application
• Parent and Student interview for acceptance into the program

Credit Recovery is a credit program intended for Monrovia High School students enrolled in day school who failed to earn academic credit in the traditional classroom. Students identified for Credit Recovery wish to graduate on time and would benefit from more personalized instruction through an alternate method. Students may not have concurrent same-course enrollment in both the online and traditional setting.

The Monrovia Opportunity Program offers both original and credit recovery courses for students with IPEs, 504 plans, ILPs, and students receiving support under MTSS. Members of the Special Needs Department provide students with a flexible and accessible learning solution utilizing an online platform and individualized instruction. This program aims to meet the needs of learners on Core 40 Diploma, General Diploma, and Certificate of Completion tracks.

Monrovia Night School is intended for any high school students enrolled in day school wishing to recover credits that will not fit into the daily schedule, who wish to graduate early, or adults who need their high school diploma and are past their graduation date. It utilizes a web-based curriculum which requires participation both on and off campus. Classes meet onsite twice per week for two hours in MHS Room 210.
