Homeless Youth

McKinney-Vento Act

The McKinney-Vento Act was designed to address the challenges that homeless youth face in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school.  Under the act, educational agencies must ensure each homeless youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including preschool, as other children. In addition, educational agencies are required to review and undertake steps to revise practices and policies that may act as barriers to the identification, enrollment, attendance, or academic success of homeless youth.
