Our ProfileSchool and Community DescriptionMonrovia High School (Grades 9-12) is located 30 miles southwest of Indianapolis in the town of Monrovia. The school is part of the Monroe-Gregg School System which also includes Monrovia Elementary (Grades K-5) and Monrovia Middle School (Grades 6-8). The school lies between two townships in the community; one is largely agriultural, and the other is a bedroom community to Indianapolis. Monrovia has always been a largely Caucasian school in terms of racial diversit. Students of Asian, American-Indian, and Hispanic backgrounds have attended, but in small numbers (i.e. about 5-10 students per year). The school has a wide variety of students in various socio-economic classes. These students live in homes ranging from sprawling extates to trailer parks. The school has some federal and state grants, but the majority of its revenues come from local property taxes. The student graduation rate is 89.2%. AccreditationMonrovia High School is accredited by the Indiana State Department of Public Instruction and holds a First-Class Commission in the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. GuidanceA comprehensive guidance program is provided by two fully-certified counselors who are involved in educational, personal and vocational counseling both in groups and on an individual basis. CurriculumThe curriculum includes over 200 different course offerings and allows students to design academic programs to meet their individual needs. Extracurricular ProgramMonrovia has an excellent extracurricular program that allows participation in 12 interschool sports plus envirothon, band, choir, newspaper and academic competition events.
