From the Principal

Welcome to Monrovia Elementary! The 2011-12 school year marks the initial year of Project Achieve. We have changed our instructional design to provide 80 minutes of daily instruction in Reading, Writing and mathematics. We will continue to provide Social Sciences and Specials (Physical Education, Art, Music and Library) instruction to all students. The organizational structure will place a kindergarten, first grade and second grade classroom in each primary cluster and a third grade, fourth grade and fifth grade classroom in each intermediate cluster.  Within each cluster, there will be one teacher who will teach Reading to all three grade levels, one who will teach Writing to all three grade levels and one who will teach mathematics to all three grade levels. All teachers will teach Social Sciences to their homeroom.

We have several volunteer opportunities in our building. We welcome all parents and community members to participate in the education of our students. We have two opportunities to assist students in a one-on-one or small group setting. The first is Reading Buddies which would match the volunteer with a struggling reader. We provide a 10 minute training session to anyone who is interested in being a Reading Buddy. We will begin Math Buddies as a volunteer program this year. This program places a volunteer in a Math class to work with students in a one-on-one or small group situation. Volunteers may also be involved in a classroom doing various jobs for the teacher. If interested in this opportunity you may contact the teacher directly.
