Math Bowl

Sponsor: Mrs. Marianne Berlin and Ms. Erin Huff

Math Bowl is an academic team for 4th and 5th graders. The team is composed of four captains and up to 16 team members. The students work in groups of 3 to solve story problems given a time limit of 30, 45 or 60 seconds. There is one competition consisting of four rounds. Each round consists of seven multiple-choice questions, which are read to the students and projected on a screen simultaneously. The competition is based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics publication Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics. This includes thirteen curriculum standards. Prior to the competition, student will meet twice weekly to work on problem solving, team strategies, and familiarizing themselves with the calculators.

There is no limit to the number of students who are members of the MES Math Bowl Team

Math Bowl Team Received First Place Award

Congratulations to our Math Bowl Team! The Team received a first place award in their class. There were fourteen teams that competed on Tuesday, March 4th at Neil Armstrong in Mooresville. Our Team members were:
