October 4, 2010 MES PTO Meeting Minutes

Those in attendance:  Heaven Najera, Stacey Harris, Melissa York, Jessica Viles, Diane Wilson-Dennis, Julie Nagel, Erica Hannah, Susan Williams, Tanessa Barber, Tammy Everett, Tisha Kivett, Annette Kluemper and Bethany Brown

            Beginning Balance from Sept 13:  $4759.09

                        Expenses:  Popcorn Friday supplies: $124.58                

Misc expense for coffee supplies and nurse supplies:  $61.94

            Revenue:  $100 donation

            Balance on Oct 4:  $4672.57

NIM Reading Program Update given by Melissa York

Information re: NIM Program and sign up sheet will be given at Parent/Teacher Conferences

NIM Reading Program is easy to do and takes 5 minutes per child.  Contact Melissa York for a very short training session.

Popcorn Friday Update given by Marty Vaughn

PF was held on Oct 1.  Six volunteers helped and ran smoothly.  Next Popcorn Friday is Nov 5.

Upcoming Events Update given by MES PTO Board Members

** Trash Bag Distribution will be held during Parent/Teacher Conf. on Monday, Oct 18 from 3:00 pm – 8:00 pm.  Pick up will be at the garage on the west side of MES.  We will need 5-6 volunteers per shift.  We are still in need of volunteers.  Volunteer phone calls have begun.

**Teacher Conference Dinner will be from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm in the MES Science Lab.  Numerous volunteers have signed up to provide side items and desserts.  The main dish will be BBQ and a vegetarian dish.  Volunteers need to have their items at the school no later than 4:00 pm.  Refrigerators are available for drop off earlier in the day.  Bethany Brown is chair and will call volunteers.

**Incredible Pizza Dine to Donate will be Wednesday, Oct 20th from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.  A flyer was sent home with the students.  MES PTO will receive 15% of sales.

**Football Sectional Pep Session will be Wednesday, Oct 20 at 2:00 pm in the MES gym.  Students will be dismissed to the gym at 1:50 pm.  Football players, cheerleaders and band will attend.  Teachers will be participation in cheers and games.

**MES Spirit Day will coincide with the pep session on October 20.  Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed/spirited.

** Bingo Night will be Friday, November 12 at 6:00 pm.  We are in need of additional volunteers.  Food and drink will be for sale.  Many great prizes to be awarded.  The 4th grade classes will host a bake sale with proceeds to benefit the Morgan Co food bank.  MES PTO will be accepting canned food items at the door.  The canned food items will be donated to the 4th grade classes for their food bank drive.

**Santa Shop will be Tuesday, November 30 – Friday, December 3.  Times to be announced.  Santa Shop Chairpersons:  Brenda Kennedy, Crystal Adams and Julie Nagel.  There is an extensive list of volunteers already signed up to help with Santa Shop.  Due to a low balance at the start of the school year, a vote was taken at the Sept 13 meeting to spend $2500 on Santa Shop this year.  After and information gathering period from Sept 13 to present, it was voted to use a consignment company to have more items available for purchase and to make it a more financially sound event.  By using a consignment company, MES PTO will only pay for what we sale.  Flyers, table coverings and cash register provided free of charge.  Prices are preset in the cash register so volunteers need to only enter the number on the item.  MES PTO receives 15% of the price of each item.  The MES PTO Board will be purchasing spirit wear items to sale during Santa Shop.  We will start reviewing items to purchase next week.  A vote was taken to spend up to $1500 on Spirit Wear with the intention that Spirit Wear no purchased during Santa Shop will be sold during other MES PTO events.

Committee Meeting Time 7:00 – 7:30 pm

            Parents met in their committees to discuss/plan their chosen events

Next MES PTO meeting is Monday, November 1 at 6:30 pm in the elementary cafeteria.
